I just had to post these pictures. Yes, that is the newly signed Aaron Maybin with the Buffalo emblem on one side of his head, and a 58 and 78 on the other side (his number and honoring Bruce Smith), as reported by Chris Brown.
A lot of people seem to be upset about the 78 in honor of Bruce, but I say "fuck you" to those people. He's a kid, let him be excited and show that he really wants to play here. Remember, 99% of the time, agents are the cause of the hold out. Except, Jason Peters. That guy was a fat dickhead.
Well great, now we can move on from this fiasco. I mean, not like out D-line needs any help or anything.
Also, this may not even be made official until after tomorrow's pre-season game against Green Bay. Maybin will not be eligible to play, and the Bills would rather not cut a player to make room for a guy that will be wearing street clothes.
Although I have heard he is quite the snappy dresser.
*Update: Maybin will receive somewhere around $15 million in guaranteed money. The Bills also decided not to wait on making it official and released DB Antwain Spann and DE Ventrell Jenkins.
After a rain soaked golf outing, and some barbecuing with my parents, I decided to get comfortable and re-watch the Buffalo Bills vs. Chicago Bears pre-season game on the NFL network. I figured this would be a good time to start a new feature that I'd like to include after every Bills game this season. Superstars & D-Bags:
“He said to him, 'My son, you are here with me always; everything I have is yours. But now we must celebrate and rejoice, because your brother was dead and has come to life again; he was lost and has been found.'"–The Parable of the Prodigal Son
“What y'all thought y'all wasn't gon' see me?I'm the Osirus of this shit.Wu-Tang is here forever, Motherfucker.”–ODB
Hey, Blog Fan. I’m back.I’m sorry I was gone for so long. The Larry Quinn epic took a lot out of me, frankly.Ups to the Apologist for keeping the updates going through this uneventful craphole of a summer.I’m now back to bring my personal brand of vitriol back to the blog in time for the season(s) to begin. Not much has riled me up lately in Sabreland or Bills (nay, Argos) Nation, just the same old burn I’ve always had:
Last night, the city of Buffalo got it's first taste of the 2009-2010 NFL season as the Buffalo Bills hosted the Chicago Bears for their second preseason game of the year. It was a victorious contest for the Bills as they won 27-20.
Trent Edwards looked sharp completing 10 straight passes for 79 yards and even running once for 14 yards on a play-action bootleg. On the downside, T.O. was inactive due to his toe injury and Edwards was sacked twice in three possessions. However, the QB put the fault on himself.
"The first one I was hot [facing a blitz], and I needed to throw the ball to the tight end and I didn't," Edwards said. "The second one was just a misread by me. I went the wrong direction and then didn't get a chance to throw the ball away."
But obviously it's very encouraging to see Trent running the offense efficiently against a pretty good defense, albeit in a preseason game.
The other highlights for the Bills included a few interceptions for two young cornerbacks on the team, Ellis Lankster (2) and Leodis McKelvin (1). And in the 4th quarter, rookie TE Shawn Nelson made a nice touchdown catch on a fade pass from Gibran Hamdan. Dominic Rhodes and Bruce Hall added a pair of rushing touchdowns and 'Inside the 30 Specialist' Rian Lindell rounded out the scoring with a couple of FGs (28 & 20 yards).
Let me start off by apologizing on behalf of myself and the rest of the DGWUS crew. The last few weeks have seen us fall off the map when it comes to following our favorite bumbling Buffalo squads. Between the inactivity of the offseason and the activities of our daily lives, we've been unable to find the time to get caught up.
With that in mind, I'm going to attempt to go a little more in-depth with my coverage of all the things we missed. 'Attempt' being the key word...
