The Reason for The Seasons.
This godforsaken website was founded by three Buffalo expats living in New York City in April of 2009 as a vehicle through which they could vent all of the rage that comes with being a fan of Buffalo sports. It hit a hiatus sometime in late 2009 and early 2010, for reasons related to heavy drinking, low motivation levels and the demands of being so fucking handsome all the time. It happens.
In 2011, those three founding members re-lit the fire of Dear God Why Us? Sports and the site was reborn. They rode the wave of the Sabres improbable but ultimately heartbreaking playoff run that spring and picked up another writer along the way. The details of their early friendship with The Barrister remain hazy, but he became a regular sometime soon after the Sabres got bounced out of the first round and remains the most annoyingly incessant contributor to the blog. He's also a farter.
Lately, the world of DGWU Sports has hit a big snag otherwise known as "lingering and depressing reality of writing about teams that simply suck all life out of our love for sports." Friendships have been tested by sports and life alike, bridges have been burned, and those left standing wonder, often, what remains of the fucking point.
Yet the torch must be carried on and the broken soul of the expat Buffalo sports fan must remain represented through a series of drunken rambles, vicious ad hominem attacks and irreverent podcasts with unlicensed music.
So, we remain... the Deeg:
The Barrister, the pre- and post-merger Dr. J of DGWU Sports,
The Apologist, who posts when he remembers we have a website,
The Outlander, who hates everything except multiple bottles of wine,
The Commander, who chose a name that implies leadership but he DON'T RUN SHIT,
and, Esteemed Deeg Emeritus, The Yachtsman, a man with many opinions about a website he claims to hold in ambivalent regard.
From Thurman's missing helmet, and Hasek for Koslov, and the Drury/Briere Fiasco, to The Tank and the peal-clutching, to trading up for Sammy and seeing Rex Fucking Ryan coach the Bills, we're not gonna take it anymore!!!!! Well actually, not until the home opener....and then we have to order the NHL Package.....and then we have to buy our Andrew Luck jersey........well you get the point. Welcome to DGWU Sports.....all the teams in Buffalo that matter.....for now.
