In one of our shortest CrapTastiCasts ever, we struggle for subject matter after the Sabres' first loss of the season. While you can't really say we succeeded, we showed up at least so that's something. During the more lucid moments of this particular installment from the Buffalo expat insane asylum, we talk a little about the Sabres, a little about Manti Te'o, a little about baseball, and a little about man tears. The Scizz was off his rocker for most of the evening so don't expect much by way of focus... which, incidentally you should never really expect from us anyway.

Never has a CrapTastiCast required so much editing.

Sunday didn't go quite as planned. Our special guest for the afternoon was absent due to the failings of Time Warner's high-speed never really works internet so the rest of the NYC-based crew soldiered on with discussions of the Bills, Sabres, NHL and a silver platter of other topics that I can't be bothered to remember. We finish it off with another installation of our game "Scizz is a Douche," thereby giving us all the opportunity to show how stupid we are when we're a few deep.

What a busy week it has been at DGWU Sports! Between news of the NHL Lockout and our battles with the various personalities at WGR for refusing, as is their custom, to engage with viewpoints other than (a) their own, or (b) those of the mouthbreathers who call into WGR and make it their mission to express their vehement disdain for everything in the world, there was a LOT to discuss when we gathered Wednesday night. More shots were fired and kindling put onto the world of Buffalo sports media so that we can continue to watch it burn. Heh. Sports.

Oh, and there are those Buffalo Bills, too, which is actually where we started in segment one as we recapped the shit show that was Sunday with the Deeg. Bills @ Cardinals was by no means an enjoyable time, but recapping the fun times we had and the trainwreck of a game ended up being pretty fun/depressing/rage-inducing.

In segment two we welcomed Colin Bruckel, one of the founders of TheHosers.com, a site we have linked to for a while and which provides stellar insight about the legal issues surrounding professional hockey and, in particular, the CBA. Colin's assessment of the current CBA negotiations was as interesting and well-presented as any I've heard, and it is an understatement to say that we were lucky to have him on. I would note, however, that since our discussion took place before the NHLPA presented its own offers to the league (and before Bettman rejected them immediately), you'll want to keep an eye on his site for more hot legal takes. Or you could continue being ignorant and just keep listening to the superficialities of sports talk radio.

Segment three brings it back to our wheelhouse of inappropriateness and ill-conceived sports takes as we talk the USMNT's win on Tuesday, the NBA's new policy restricting pre-game celebrations, Apologist's suicidal ideations following the Orioles' elimination from the playoffs, and our predictions for the Bills/Titans game this weekend. I must add that we had intended to talk more about (read: make fun of) Shawne Merriman's return to Buffalo, but had to toss that to the back burner so we'd have time to talk about the more pressing issues of gloating about our intellectual superiority over talk radio hosts. It's a burden, really. In any event, I'm hopeful that Merriman's second tenure in the 716 will give us plenty of opportunities to point and laugh.

Ok, moving on...

Last night, the DGWU Sports Crew gathered at The Barrister's apartment to record another gem for your ear holes. After a slow week of written content at the site, it was nice to sit down and discuss all the many goings on in the sports world. Don't lie - we know you're excited.

Our first segment was almost exclusively devoted to debriefing the Bills game in Cleveland last weekend, as well as our thoughts about Buffalo's two delightful, injured running backs. Segment two gave us an opportunity to look ahead to the game this weekend against the Patriots as we were joined by the Deeg's Buffalo correspondent, The Outlander. That's right - steaming hot takes spit all the way from the 716. Outlander stayed for the third and final segment while we talked Dickey's 20th win, the Orioles' playoff hopes and the tire fire that is the the Boston Red Sox. We close out with a brief discussion of our plans to #OccupyBridgeport for an AHL game this fall. More on that to come in the next few weeks...

Still smarting from Sunday's Week 1 debacle? Still want to wallow a little more, while simultaneously having your favorite blowhards serenade your ear holes with ill-formed arguments, rage storms and jokes about strippers?

Of course you do.

The Deeg was in attendance at MetLife this weekend. While the Bills couldn't be bothered to bring their A Game, we showed up to fucking play. And play we did.

That was creepy.

With a short pregame segment and a doggie bag full of hot takes from our ultimate, postgame trip back to the five boroughs, we discuss our terrible squad, undersized jerseys, canine cunnilingus, needle dick Jets fans, dick-hatted state troopers, and the presumptive end of the Ryan Fitzbeardy Era at One Bills Drive.

Recorded on an iPhone, what we lack in technical quality, we make up in faceless internet potshots.

This week's Craptasticast is a Two-Fer, representing the best of DGWU and the absolute dredge worst. Part I is a continuation of the train wreck that was last week's cast, where we talk about topics such as "Scizz went to a camp called Jesus Your Compadre" and whether or not The Apologist was dead (he wasn't. and isn't). Part II on the other hand (available Monday) is an incredibly inspirational and in depth conversation on anything and everything to do with Buffalo and the trials and tribulations of trying to make things work there.....with special guest Nick Mendola! Definitely a representation of what we aspire to be in our more sober moments here at DGWU.

Yeah, you heard that right. Two podcasts, madre putanas. HENCE THE DICKENSIAN REFERENCE, BALL HAND.

I KNOW I COULDN'T CONTAIN MYSELF EITHER.

This guy was way more pumped about getting the double Craptasticasts than he was when Gene Chizik showed up to his Dr. Pepper Castle with the BCS Trophy in hand. WE ARE THAT AWESOME.

So please listen with a MASSIVE GRAIN OF SALT to Part I (Episode 8), wherein we introduce The Barrister, briefly mourn the death of The Apologist, and Scizz plays the "Really Embarrassing Names Of Camps I Attended When I Was Younger" Game (hint: he invented the game and is the only player ever.)

Part II (Episode 9), I'll say this: if you ever only listen to one of our Craptasticasts, a) eff yourself you aren't loyal and b) please listen to this one because it's one of the best we've had so far. We had an amazing conversation with Nick, and the topics/sentiments brought forward in that interview should be shared among forward-minded Buffalonians worldwide. (Don't scoff at that, you know we're all over the place)

What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been

First things first. Read the Apologist's post from earlier today on this whole Sabres team/playoff run/7-game series/future. There may be a few minor opinions that differ with the DGWU crew, but overall I think it wraps up what we are all feeling quite nicely. It really is a great read.

Since Aps covered it, there is no need to keep rehashing the hockey talk. Excuse the cheesiness that follows, but the shaving of my playoff beard was therapeutic and now it is time to vent. I decided to share two experiences/epiphanies I had on Tuesday night. First, at about 11:45 pm I was walking the last block towards my apartment in Hoboken, NJ when I saw a big guy walking towards me. I mean Yeti big. As I got closer, there was no mistaking the huge B on his chest with a Sabre through it. He was rockin' the same shirt I had on under my Pommers jersey. We made eye contact and both of us just nodded and kept walking. No actual words were said. But with that nod, we communicated a lifetime of love and despair that our Buffalo teams often bring us. There was no need to stop and talk about it or even say "another tough break, huh?" All that was needed was a simple nod, and we both immediately knew what the other was thinking.

This may or may not have been the guy that walked past me. It was dark.

Second, as the title of the post says, it has been a wild ride. Three months ago when we decided to get this blog back off the ground, it just so happened to coincide with the Sabres starting to get their shit together. As they became came one, the DGWU crew did too. Many nights out drinking instead of sitting home watching this team alone and absolutely insane conversations that people wouldn't believe happened. We bonded like the Sabres bonded (OK maybe it was totally different, and ours involved A LOT of beer and whiskey, but you get the point).

Last night after the dust had settled and some extreme vitriol had heaved from all of our collectives mouths, something happened. We were angry, sad, frustrated, confused.....but about 30 minutes after the game we were happy. The Apologist grabbed Yachtsman and I (and Grandpa Tim), gave a little speech about how fun our bender had been and we embraced. Grown men in a packed bar....hugging and laughing. Re-fucking-diculous. And of course we start right back up again on Thursday night when our beloved Buffalo Bills draft 3rd overall (PLEASE LET CAM NEWTON FALL!).
Somehow Nathan Gerbe's peskiness and Tyler Myers' new found bad-assery made us closer. I have said it before but I'll say it again. These teams bring people together. THIS team brought THESE guy back together. We used the word "warpath" many times this series to represent the Sabres, but it has become much more. We are one fellas. WARPATH.

Oops. With all of the craziness of this playoff series and the busy work week that everyone in the DGWU Crew have (and the raging hangover I was dealing with yesterday), nobody noticed that yesterday was the two year anniversary of this ludicrous blog. You might be asking yourself, "two years? I thought you just started this scribble page?". False. We actually got together and started this website two years ago with a live NFL draft blog and went on to post quite regularly. Of course we didn't even have remotely the following we have now and would sometimes go entire weeks without posting if we happened to be on a benderrrrrrrrrrrrr I mean working really hard at our day jobs. Eventually we just stopped altogether. About a year later the three of us were out in a bar for yours truly's birthday when in a drunken haze I said "we should get the blog going again". And BOOM, here we are to help you waste time at work and give you fits from the stupidity that we type.

So alas, we all missed the big day. But after licking my wounds Monday (emotionally and emotionally), I figured I'd jump on here and if give you a little journey into the past before the big game seven tonight. I for one am confident that the Buffalo Sabres are going to pull this out, but am still nervous as hell. So much like my past compilations to keep your mind off of the game, here is a little celebration of some of the crap we've posted. Happy Anniversary!

I've determined that I can in fact reference an episode of The Simpsons in everything I write

-First thing first, read Yachtsman's semi-expose and "discussion" of Larry Quinn from April 2009. Now that Leisure Suit Larry is out of the organization I enjoyed reading it even more. Note: It is epic-ly long so be prepared to take a bathroom break somewhere around the point he goes on a tirade about the LaFontaine trade.

-Then take a quick stroll over to May 2009 for a quick write-up on Bills fullback Corey McIntyre. Nothing groundbreaking there, but when it went down we were one of the first blogs/websites to pick it up and got some attention for it, including a shout out from Deadspin.

-Also check out the Apologist's post from May 2009 in which he ties up some loose ends. Pay most attention to that first loose end because now he is destroying anyone who comes near his goalie.

-This one made me chuckle. Yachtsman on a tear again in June 2009.

-How about some old Sabres news on our youngsters to bring back some memories?

-I enjoyed writing this fictional tale of the Buffalo Metro. It is amazingly stupid and if you don't know the movie it will probably be painful to read, but you know what? I ENJOYED IT!!!!!! WHY CAN'T I BE HAPPY FOR ONCE??????? Sorry about that.

-Finally, we move to February 2011 right after my birthday. Yachtsman on why we get the band back together. Naturally, we have not stuck to the schedule presented there one bit, but I say fuck it. We're having a good time on this blog and thats all that matters. That and the return of Derek Roy with a Royigame seven victory tonight.

Roysie with a Bills hat on? That can't be a good sign.

Listen up. I know that here at DGWU Sports we can be sliiiiightly negative. And I know we give this team (and another certain Buffalo sports team) a hard time for their shortcomings. But when it comes down to it, the group of us are three of the Biggest Buffalo marks out there.

We have been waiting for this day for nine, long months, and after reading this Jerry Sullivan column today, the day could not possibly have gone fast enough. So here we are, the big night, on the biggest stage of week 1 (seriously, are there really still football fans in California?), and we are so fired up, that a savage hit from Bryce Paup couldn't keep us down.

So with that said....

ARE YOUR READY FOR SOME A.V.P. BUFFALO BILLS FOOTBALL???
