The Apologist
The first NHL Winter Classic, held at Ralph Wilson Stadium on New Year's Day in 2008, has been awarded the 2008 Sports Event of the Year by SportsBusiness Journal and SportsBusiness Daily.
Just about every sports fan in Buffalo needs no help remembering the day that Crosby & Co. came into the Ralph and defeated the Sabres 2-1 in a shootout. The insults added to the injuries were Sidney Crosby scoring the winning goal in the shootout and the opposing netminder, Ty Conklin, being the same man who had rode the pine for the Sabres the last half of the season before. You'll also remember this was the year the Sabres bungled their way through the regular season and their contract talks with Brian Campbell.
Thanks for the painful memory, SBJ & SBD!
