Last night, the city of Buffalo got it's first taste of the 2009-2010 NFL season as the Buffalo Bills hosted the Chicago Bears for their second preseason game of the year. It was a victorious contest for the Bills as they won 27-20.
Trent Edwards looked sharp completing 10 straight passes for 79 yards and even running once for 14 yards on a play-action bootleg. On the downside, T.O. was inactive due to his toe injury and Edwards was sacked twice in three possessions. However, the QB put the fault on himself.
"The first one I was hot [facing a blitz], and I needed to throw the ball to the tight end and I didn't," Edwards said. "The second one was just a misread by me. I went the wrong direction and then didn't get a chance to throw the ball away."
But obviously it's very encouraging to see Trent running the offense efficiently against a pretty good defense, albeit in a preseason game.
The other highlights for the Bills included a few interceptions for two young cornerbacks on the team, Ellis Lankster (2) and Leodis McKelvin (1). And in the 4th quarter, rookie TE Shawn Nelson made a nice touchdown catch on a fade pass from Gibran Hamdan. Dominic Rhodes and Bruce Hall added a pair of rushing touchdowns and 'Inside the 30 Specialist' Rian Lindell rounded out the scoring with a couple of FGs (28 & 20 yards).
